Massage and Fibromyalgia

Massage and Fibromyalgia, Lake Stevens

Many more people these days are being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Suffering from symptoms of

-Pain and fatigue in the muscles

-Sleeping disorders

-Pain and swelling at the joints

-Muscle stiffness

and more. At times fibro sufferers can barely get out of bed and every movement causes pain. Though we are still uncertain the exact causes of this ( 4 times more women suffer than men), we do know that massage therapy can help.

How does Massage Therapy work?

Hands on massage techniques, manipulate the soft tissues, breaks down adhesions in the muscles, relieves stress and muscle tension and also increases flexibility and joint mobility. Depending on the pressure you seek from your therapist we should be able to help rid your muscles of some adhesions, increase your range of motion, treat trigger points and alleviate pain. Hydrotherapy is used to relax the muscles or reduce inflammation.

How often should I come?

We will usually recommend a series of massages with little space in between sessions. This all depends on the treatment you seek.Allowing and reeducating your muscles to relax and de-stress is crucial to reducing the painful symptoms you are experiencing from Fibromylgia. We will work with you to map out a wellness plan that fits your needs.

Beyond Massage Therapy...

Aside from massage therapy, physicians recommend also special diet and exercise. Eating a healthy diet and lose excess weight, can ease the body's joints, and practicing gentle exercise can significantly reduce muscle pain and help patients sleep much better. Swimming is a great choice, with low impact on joints. Be sure to ask your doctor about any of these recommendations.
